Boat Inspection Check Guide

Boat Inspection Check Guide

Ensure the safety and surety of you and your passengers by servicing your vessel every year! You can check and maintain your vessel in the following ways:

Battery

Utilize an authentic marine battery for optimal performance, and regularly inspect and charge your battery. If it fails to retain a charge, then consider replacing it. Make sure to secure batteries with brackets inside a well-ventilated container. Don’t forget to clean the battery terminal and cables, and also apply grease to the terminals. Make sure the connections for terminals and cables are tight, and maintain the batteries by topping them up with distilled water. Also, periodically test all equipment reliant on the battery for functionality.

Motor

To safeguard the electrical components of your marine equipment, it is important to apply a corrosion-retarding agent to spray electrical connectors and terminals regularly. Keep all electrical fittings meticulously clean, dry, and free from corrosion. Make sure to do a routine check on spark plugs, and carry a spare set and a spark plug spanner.

Fuel

Regularly inspect and maintain fuel systems to prevent corrosion, cracks, or leaks. Ensure clean fuel supply by checking and replacing filters, disposing of old fuel, and adhering to lubrication guidelines. Enhance safety by conducting a sniff test, promptly addressing fuel odors, and planning for ample fuel reserves on every voyage.

Water pump

Make sure to regularly inspect for water leaks to maintain optimal performance. Also, change outboard water pump impellers once in a year, and considering replacing frequently after operating in sandy or shallow conditions for prolonged periods, ensuring the longevity of your marine engine.

Lights

Don’t forget to check the navigation lights even if you use your vessel only during daylight hours.

Vessel structure

Inspect your vessel regularly for cracks or corrosion. Make sure to maintain cleanliness, test the steering system for smooth operation and ensure your vessel registration is current for compliance and safety. Also, make sure that your vessel registration is up to date.

Safety equipment

Make sure to check and update all your safety equipment and make sure that you have the appropriate safety equipment for the activity. Check the expiry dates of all the safety equipment such as, flares, lifejackets and distress beacons.

Trailer

Don’t forget to check the light, wheel pressure, bearings, tow hitch, tie downs, and safety chains of your trailer.
